2-5-18: Winter White

February 5, 2018

Happy Monday! Hope everyone is recovering from Superbowl Sunday yesterday and that amazing win by the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though my beloved Miami Dolphins weren’t there I keep telling myself that there is always next year. Last week we found out that we are going to have 6 more weeks of winter…JOY! Just because it is winter and cold out doesn’t mean you can’t wear white. There is always a way to make winter white fun! Like this bell sleeved top I got back on September from Banana Republic. It makes a simple white long sleeve top have a little bit more of an edge to it. Don’t you think? Pair it with a fun jacket to keep you warm.

Every night that I go out I ask myself the same question. Tonight do I want to be warm and comfy or do I want to look cute? Sometimes you can do both! Sadly the top that I am wearing in this picture is sold out but Banana Republic has some other great options for you to choose from.

Just remember if you don’t want to have your sleeves get bunched up when putting on your jacket you should  hold in your hand the bell sleeve in one bunch when putting on your jacket. Otherwise your sleeve will bunch up in your jacket. Trust me this has happened to me too many times that I care not to admit. Hope everyone has a great Monday! <3

Golden Globes 2018

January 10, 2018

Hi Everyone! Sorry that I have been so MIA for the past few weeks. I have been working on some amazing content for Just Jodi Style. I have also taken some time to reflect. With all the other fashion and lifestyle bloggers out there now I wanted to take the time to see what I can do to make my blog better than ever. Without further adieu lets discuss Sunday night’s Golden Globes red carpet. Now we all knew prior to Sunday’s award show that the women would all be wearing black outfits in solidarity. I want to applaud all of them because we as women are truly all standing together as one. We are supporting each other and making sure that we are all being heard. Here are some of my favorite looks from Sunday.

First up is Claire Foy and Matt Smith. I will say this right now I completely binge watched the entire two seasons of The Crown on Netflix over the holidays and I don’t know if I can wait until 2019 for season 3, but what I will miss the most if Clair Foy as Queen Elizabeth.

Fun fact for all of you Shondaland lovers like myself last week she spilled the beans that there will be a crossover between Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder this season! This is so exciting especially in Scandal’s final season. It get’s me to thinking…what does Shonda have up her sleeve?

Gal Gadot I can not wait for the second Wonder Woman movie!

Mariah Carey I do not know what you are doing, but all I can say is you look PHENOMENAL! Whatever you are doing to look this good I need to know so I can age just as well as you are.

Reese Witherspoon all I can say is Elle Woods you have done me proud <3.

While watching the Globes last night when Catherine Zeta – Jones came on screen I paused my DVR. She looks absolutely incredible! This dress is so sexy and covers here in all the right places. I called my Mom and said when I am her age I want to be able to look and wear clothes like that.

Nicole Kidman flawless as always. I did not get a chance to see how she clapped her hands, but I hope it wasn’t the same as she did at the Oscars.

Kendall Jenner all I can say is WOW!

Joshua Jackson….Eat your heart out! 🙂 Diane Kruger

How did I not know that Natalie Portman and America Ferrera are besties? Can we say Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3 please? Also did anyone else notice Natalie Portman’s dig when presenting Best Director last night… go rewatch the clip if you haven’t.

It was so hard for me to not love almost every single outfit from Sunday night. Majority of my gowns that I own except for one are black. I just find them not only slimming, but more classic of a look. I know that I have stated this before, but you can’t go wrong with an all black outfit.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far and for those of us in the northeast staying as warm as possible. <3

Date Night In Winter

November 13, 2017

Happy Monday! I am already getting myself together to go home to Miami for the Thanksgiving holiday, but before here is something that I have learned since living in New York. Now every girl wants to look cute on date night and winter and cold weather is no exception. Just because it is cold outside doesn’t mean that you have to wear a cashmere sweater out. My go to for any date night outfit is all black. This is always my go to for two main reason… 1 its easy to match with everything and 2 black is super slimming. Black is also one of the few colors that especially during winter if you are wearing all black no one will judge you or say you look gothic because of your attire. It is completely normal during winter in New York City to be seen wearing all black at all times. I know that I do the majority of the time.

The easiest way to create a great date night look and still be warm is by layering. I love this sheer top from Zara I got last year that I wear over a black body suit because even though it is sheer it surprisingly keeps me warm when I go out. Yes, I of course wear a jacket as well with this outfit, but I wanted you all to be able to see the beauty of this top.

Another thing that I have learned from living in New York City during winter is that restaurants and bars will have the heat on so despite the fact it may be freezing outside that doesn’t mean it will be cold inside as well especially at bars. This is something I learned the hard way my first year living here and I walked out of a bar without my jacket on and stood outside because I was so hot inside and needed to cool off in the frigid cold. Hope you found today’s post helpful! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post to hear how I did with my week without sugar and dairy! Have a good day everyone <3

Bag + Wallet = Perfection!

November 9, 2017

Happy Thursday! I can’t believe that we are already in November it still hasn’t hit me yet. One the hardest things for girls to do when preparing for a night out is to find a bag that can fit everything you need in it. This Louis Vuitton bag the Pouchette Felicie is my new go to bag right now. It comes with two additional items on top of this great bag! There is a small pouch inside with a zipper that I put things in there like hair ties or other things that I don’t want loose in my bag. Then there is another flat wallet that you can put all your credit cards in and also your cash. Since I have the Iphone plus I always have to pick which items to take out of my purse in order to fit my phone. This bag fits everything in it and my phone with room to spare. It comes in a variation of color options, but I choose the classic LV pattern with a pop of a dark pink inside. This bag is also great because you can unclip the chain and use it as a clutch if you want. This is one of those investment pieces that I think is worth every penny. Louis Vuitton is a classic brand that never goes out of style. Click here to head on over to their website to see all the variations of colors they have for this bag. Click Here For the Handbag

On another note I am personally am so excited to go to the Louis Vuitton exhibit in the financial district when I return to New York City after thanksgiving. It tells the whole history of the brand and I have seen videos posted from the museum and it looks AMAZING!  For all of those in NYC bundle up because this weekend looks like it going to be a cold one.

Hump Day Treat – Cauliflower Mash

November 8, 2017

Happy Wednesday from chilly New York City! One of my favorite things during the fall / winter is finding new recipes that keep me feeling all warm and fuzzy without having to make soup. I have recently in the past year fallen in love with cauliflower. If you ask my Mom she will tell you that I would not even take a bite of cauliflower as a child. I only started to have interest in cauliflower after one night at home in Miami my brother roasted some cauliflower in the oven with some olive oil and paprika and it smelled so good that I had to taste it. Needless to say I am now on the hunt to find recipes that incorporate cauliflower.
Personally I love mashed potatoes and have always loved them since I was a little kid. What I didn’t know was there was a way to make this same delicious tasty side dish with cauliflower. I overheard someone talking about this at Whole Foods one day and I immediately started googling recipes on my phone in the store. I am all about the easy recipes as I like to come home from work at the end of the day to my puppy Stella and an easy to cook meal. Thanks to steamy kitchen I have found the perfect recipe for cauliflower mash.
Ingredients:
  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons light sour cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • snipped chives
Directions
1. First separate the cauliflower into florets and get rid of the core.
2. In a pot bring 2 cups of water to a simmer. Once you have done this then add the cauliflower. Cover and turn the heat down on the stove. Cook the cauliflower for 12 – 15 minutes or until very tender. I checked it with a fork just like I would with asparagus.
3. Drain and discard all of the water. The drier the cauliflower is the better. The reason for this is when adding the rest of the ingredients there won’t be any excess water in the mix. Add the milk, butter, sour cream, salt and pepper.
4. Mash all the ingredients until it looks like “mashed potatoes” and if you like top the dish with chives.
I cooked this last night with some pesto shrimp and I have to say I wish I got a little more of the water out from the cauliflower, but it still tasted very good to me! If there is a recipe you all are looking for or want t me to try and do on Just Jodi Style comment below on this post and let me know!

Fitness Tuesday: No Sugar No Dairy = NO PROBLEM! ….NOT!

November 7, 2017

With Thanksgiving just around the corner I am already preparing my stomach for the endless amounts of turkey and stuffing I will be consuming. Recently I have been trying all different kinds of diets / lifestyle changes to see what works best for me. Since I started working out more frequently I have noticed a drastic change in my skin. The tricks that used to work before to clear up a break out aren’t working for me anymore so I have no choice, but to change how I eat.

There have been numerous articles that state by cutting out certain things from your diet will change how your skin looks and also your energy level. The first thing I tried trying to eat gluten free for an entire week. Needless to say I discovered how much gluten I truly eat and can’t see myself giving that up completely. This week I am cutting out dairy and sugar from my diet. Now I know what you are thinking how can you do that so easily? I am here to tell you it is not as easy as it sounds.

There are so many items that I use that I never realized contained dairy and also sugar. There are good sugars that you can eat and should have in your diet, but I am trying to get rid of the processed sugar like candy and sweets. I have already started having headaches from the withdrawal from sugar and dairy that my brother warned me would happen, but I am going to power through it. I personally can’t see myself completely getting rid of dairy and or sugar in my diet as of now, but maybe toning down how much sugar and dairy I eat. Check back with me in a week and see how I feel. Has anyone else tried this and seen great results? Comment on this post!

Until then I am going to dream about the picture above of the amazing oreo cheesecake my brother made the last time I was in Miami <3

The Perfect Dog Raincoat

November 6, 2017

Happy Monday everyone! First off I apologize that I haven’t posted in a while. Back in August I started a new job and I have been trying to get myself acclimated. It involves a lot of traveling which let me tell you I have a new respect for anyone that travels for work multiple times in a week. I am now done with the traveling portion of my job for a little bit and nothing is better than coming home to my sweet puppy Stella. She is almost two years old and I honestly still pinch myself everyday when I see her because I can’t believe she is all mine. Since getting Stella I have noticed how huge the pet apparel industry truly is, but I also have learned you need to take into consideration one important factor…your dog’s fur. Stella being a toy golden-doodle she is 3/4 poodle and 1/4 golden retriever. Her fur after getting groomed is very fluffy, but eventually turns into these beautiful curls. Most people who I have met shave their doodle’s furs because they are prone to getting matts and terrible knots in them. I have also heard that in some cases for doodles after you shave them then their fur is never the same again. My family has always loved our dog’s hair to be long so I was determined to keep it long. However, this became a problem when shopping for clothing for Stella. The first time it rained in New York City when I got Stella I had a simple rain coat that covered the top of her body with a small strap to go across her belly. This was a standard raincoat that I saw in pretty much every single pet store big or small for rain gear. Upon arriving back to my apartment Stella’s entire legs were soaked and her entire stomach / chest as well. I said there has to be a better option than this. I searched for over a month to find a full raincoat and even considered purchasing a toddlers raincoat in her size, but upon my search I found this gem on Amazon. It is a full yellow raincoat with a hood that has a zipper and buttons and also has black and white stripped lining inside. I have learned from ordering on Amazon dog clothes that most people don’t care if the item covers their dog’s entire back. For me I wanted it to cover as much as possible! The sizing for this suggested she would be a medium so I ordered both a medium and a large. The medium did fit however, because of her fur it constantly would get stuck in the zipper. Needless to say Stella was not pleased with this. I opted to get her a large and it fits perfectly! It’s a little loose under her belly, but I have no problem taking it on and off and aside from the times she does not want to wear the hood on the jacket she stays completely dry! Hurry on over to Amazon now before this amazing dog raincoat goes on backorder again. I guarantee your dog will love it!

If you don’t already please follow my dog on instagram: @HowStellaGotYourWoofBack to see her on her many adventures <3

Tuesday Shoesday / Steals & Deals – Dolce Vita

August 29, 2017

Happy Tuesday everyone! With Labor Day weekend approaching this is the best excuse to break out your best shoes to celebrate the final weekend of Summer 2017. Crazy to think that is Summer is almost officially over and Fall is just around the corner. Since last year I have officially become a sneaker junkie. I have come to love sneakers as my in between shoes when it’s too cold to wear sandals outside, but not cold enough to wear booties. My Mom as I have told you all before is my go to when it comes to finding amazing items at a fraction of the price. For a very special #tuesdayshoesday I have a steals & deals just for all of you. A lot of high end designers are making sneakers with glitter into their collections including Gucci and Golden Goose Deluxe Brands. However, even though I love a great pair of sneakers I don’t necessarily know how often I would wear a full on glitter pair. For this reason I wasn’t willing to spend $500+ on a pair of sneakers that I don’t see myself wearing more than once in a blue moon.  My Mom told me about this amazing website Lori’s. Lori’s based in Chicago similar to Jildor sell multiple brands on one site. Sometimes I have gone to sites such as Lori’s when big box retailers are sold out of sizes and sometimes have color options that they may not necessarily carry. These glittery Dolce Vita sneakers are $99.95 on Lori’s website right now! A test I always do on glitter sneakers is to brush my hand across them and see if any glitter rubs off on my hands. The last thing that you want is for glitter to get all over your clothes. We all know that glitter is the absolute WORST thing to get anywhere especially your clothes. It is almost impossible to get it off completely. I can still see some glitter on my bedroom floor in Miami after spilling some from a school project. These shoes I will say leaves no glitter behind. I also love the suede pink detailing and leopard fur on the back of the shoe. They are so comfortable which I was surprised with because I thought with all the glitter they would be too stiff and cause so many blisters on my feet. Dolce Vita has a lot of other great sneaker options on Lori’s website, but if you want this exact pair CLICK HERE.

To everyone in Houston I hope you are all staying as safe as possible. From a girl who survived the worst hurricane recorded (Hurricane Andrew) know that we are all thinking of you. <3

The Best & Worst Dressed from the 2017 VMA’s

August 28, 2017

Happy Monday! Been so busy and can’t wait to share with you all some exciting news soon, but until then lets discuss some hot topics right now. First I am not going to discuss the Game of Thrones season 7 finale as to not spoil it for those who sadly were not able to watch it last night. All I will say is this…WOW! Even my dog Stella who always watches it curled up next to me was mesmerized by last night’s episode. The other major event last night was the MTV VMA’s hosted by Katy Perry. Clearly no one got the memo to try and not schedule major shows all at the exact same time! Thank G-d for my DVR or I don’t know what I would do. The VMA’s unlike other award shows seems to be where all the attendees take more of a risk with their fashion choices. I am not one to complain, but I do enjoy seeing someone walk down the carpet and scream at my tv “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!”. In my opinion here are some of the best and worst looks from last night’s show.

Best:

Lorde in Monique Lhuillier

Hailee Steinfeld in Atelier Versace

Demi Lovato in Zuhair Murad

Hailey Baldwin in Zuhair Murad

Worst:

Kesha in Monsoori

Olivia Munn in Nicolas Jebran

Jared Leto in Gucci (In pains me to say this as much as you.)

Now there are still some other looks that I am on the fence about, but these are some of my favorite and least favorite looks. What did you all think of the looks from last night?

While we are all still on the Game of Thrones subject if anyone can find me the dragon costume her dog was wearing on last night’s show I would greatly appreciate it! Hope you all have a great last Monday of Summer 2017. <3

Throwback Thursday – Stan Smith

August 17, 2017

Happy Thursday! Sorry for not posting yesterday, but sometimes since I started using WordPress there are updates that then in turn do something to your actual webpage. The last time this happened I was on the phone with the company that hosts this page for over 4 hours to try and figure out why it wasn’t loading. Thankfully everything now is taken care of and I can now post! There are more and more trends that are popping up that are becoming classic staples in everyone’s wardrobe. The Stan Smith sneaker by Adidas is no exception. In the past few years there has been an almost cult following of the Adidas Stan Smith sneaker. Everyone loves a great pair of white sneakers, but they don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on them. Stan Smith sneakers are relatively priced under $100. Even if you customize a pair on their website unless you select one of their exotic skins the max you will pay for a custom pair should be around $150. They now even come in a variety of colors other than solid white. I personally wanted the heel of my shoe to be black vs the traditional green because I just like the look of it better. If you are looking for a great pair of white sneakers to end the Summer get a pair of Stan Smith’s. Click here on the Adidas link to see their vast selection of styles. FUN FACT! If you are like me and have small feet (I am a 6.5 in women’s) you could probably fit in the children’s shoes, but in the larger sizes. I have done that before for the Nike Dunk sneakers in the past since the kids shoes always had really cute designs. Hope everyone has a great rest of their Thursday! <3
