Summer White Top

It’s finally Thursday which means one more day until the weekend! Unless some of us took off this entire week due to the holiday. Last summer I was on the hunt for the perfect white top. The problem with a white top especially during summer is even though we all don’t want to admit it, but we sweat. In New York City it gets unbearably hot during the summer and I know that I am not the only one that sometimes takes two showers a day because of the heat. Since it gets so hot its almost impossible to find a white top that doesn’t show that you are sweating through it. I found this top at Bloomingdales on their sale rack with no label just a price tag on it. Crazy I know that it didn’t have a label but for $25 it was exactly what I was looking for. When looking for a summer white top try to find something that is breathable, but not sheer. This top with its tiered layers and detailing with also the layer of what feels like silk, but I am sure isn’t shows all the amazing details of the top without any sweat marks. I love how it is short enough to look like it is a crop top, but long enough that it covers my entire stomach. When on your hunt for the perfect white top take a picture with the flash on outside the dressing room. I say this because it is a fact that dressing rooms have different lighting and mirrors than what we have at home. Also we have seen it too many times happen to celebrities on red carpets where all the sudden their clothes are now see through. YIKES! If you are like me you don’t mind wearing a strapless bra even during the summer. My other suggestion is to bring or wear a strapless bra when you are out shopping because the last thing you want is to buy a top thinking that it can be worn with a strapless bra and then it doesn’t work once you try it all on at home. Then you will have to go all the way back to the store to return the top or you will just let it sit in your closet forever… If you haven’t already check out some of the major department stores this week. Summer Dress Fun

Summer is the best time of the year in NYC because it’s time to break out those fun dresses that have been hiding in the back of our closets. Last summer is when my love for the gym started and because I was working out so much a lot of my summer dresses just didn’t seem to fit me right anymore. My Mom told me to head on over to Bloomingdales and see what they had because it was Friends & Family. This black dress I found in their sale section for $20! Yes you read that right with all the discounts added on top of it this dress was such a steal! I know there a lot of people who will look at this dress and say its too loose for a summer dress, but that is what I was looking for. For the most part at least from what I’ve seen since living in NYC people like to wear short tight dresses or even long maxi dresses in the summer months. That isn’t the case for me when it comes to my summer dresses. When looking for a summer dress color isn’t an obstacle for me because I will wear black even during the summer. However, it is especially hard to find a black dress that isn’t too plain and simple. I love the detailing on the front of this dress and especially the crossing straps in the back. The details give this simple black summer dress a little something extra to it. It is so comfortable and easy to wear that I am sad that it doesn’t come in multiple colors. If it did I would have purchased it in every single color available. This is honestly the perfect dress to wear to a backyard BBQ, a rooftop bar and even a date night out. When it gets so hot during the summer it hard to dress without sweating through your clothes, but this dress is the perfect mix of fun and comfortable for these summer months. Transform Your Bedroom With The Perfect Bedding

Happy Thursday! Sorry that there was no hump day treat recipe yesterday. I have been working on some great new content for Just Jodi Style. I am also leaving this weekend to watch my best friend marry the love of her life in Arizona so been trying to get everything ready for that. Recently I wanted to redo my bedroom here in New York and give it a whole new vibe. There are many things that you can do to change your bedroom on a budget, but the first thing you can do is to change your bedding. The bedding I was using was the one that I had senior year of college and don’t get me wrong it’s amazing bedding and I still have it for when guests stay over, but I wanted something different. I searched for months and months and found this amazing Vera Wang bedding that was sold in Bloomingdales, Bed Bath & Beyond and even Macys. It was interesting to me that different stores had different throw pillow options with the bedding. Some had more and some had less. I love a good throw pillow, but I didn’t want to overflow my bed with pillows especially since I have a furry companion in my bed named Stella who just loves to bury her bones in my bed anywhere she can. When looking for a new duvet the one thing I wanted was to make sure it was mostly cotton. I wanted it to be able to breathe especially during the summer months in New York City. The great thing about my last duvet was it was machine washable, however that is very rare with duvets. I personally like duvets that are either solid or with very minimum pattern on them. Don’t just buy a duvet right when you see it check the other stores like I did that carry the same bedding to check what other items they carry and also for pricing difference. We all know with President’s Day weekend coming up a lot of retailers will be putting bedding on sale. Steals & Deals – Valentine’s Day Special

Happy Friday! Yesterday in New York City we had a blizzard and I decided to take the day to stay inside and snuggle up on the couch with my sweet puppy Stella. Thankfully today some of the snow has melted, but there are still parts of the city that have too much snow. The Quilted Handbag

Happy Thursday! Back in college the one thing that every girl wanted a Chanel quilted bag, but my mom wasn’t going to send me to college with such an expensive bag that I would potentially ruin on a night out. Instead she found something that had the same look, but more than half the cost. This Rebecca Minkoff quilted affair bag is one of my go to bags on days when it is so gross outside especially in New York City now with all of this rain that we have been having. This specific version is no longer sold in stores anymore, however they do have a smaller version on the Bloomingdales website. I have personally worn my bag during some major snow storms and some pretty terrible rain and it has held up through it all. If you are looking for a great going out bag that has the look of a classic Chanel bag Rebecca Minkoff is the place to go. All of their bags are so classic and are amazing quality. I have truly seen a great change in her designs and work in the past 5 years and I am an avid customer. When I couldn’t find this bag back in college my mom was able to find it thanks to Zappos. If you are having trouble finding any bag that seems to be sold out everywhere online check Zappos website. More than likely they have the bag or at least that is what has happened to me in the past. I paired my bag with a simple pair of black jeans and a chambray top with black loafers for an easy casual going out look. Steals & Deals – New Year’s Eve Outfit

Happy final Friday of 2016!!! I got up today really early to go to the final day of Carnegie Deli in New York City. Only waited a little over an hour to get seated, but it was well worth the wait. After leaving Carnegie my brother and I walked off our meal and if you haven’t found your New Year’s Eve outfit do not worry. We passed by Zara, H & M, Club Monaco and even Bloomingdales and there are so many good sales going on. A lot of the items may be items that customers returned from the holidays, but their loss is your gain! I personally bought on cyber Monday my outfit from Bloomingdales and when I went in their store they had similar options for a fraction of the price. One of the major trends that everyone wears for New Year’s Eve is anything metallic or sequins. However, this year a major trend that we saw this season is now something that I know I will see everyone wear New Years including myself…VELVET! I personally always buy something for New Year’s Eve that I know I could wear again for a different occasion. If you are going to buy sequins or any metallic stick to the metallics colors of silver, gold, chrome or even rose gold. These are colors you can wear to a cocktail or black tie wedding or even just a fancy party. You never know! If you are shopping velvet I personally got a velvet outfit for New Years that is a burgundy color and I am obsessed with it!!! If you are buying velvet I say the only color I would avoid are lighter velvet colors. The lighter velvet color outfits tend to show lint and dirt faster. Leather Leggings

Happy Saturday Everyone! Now, when you have worn those black pair of jeans for the 50th time this season you ask yourself “is there another option tonight other than wearing another pair of black jeans?” The answer is: yes, there is! A lot of designers over the past few years have started to make leather pants or faux leather pants for those of us that don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on them. The pair that I am wearing is from Paige denim and the front of the leggings are leather and the back are a stretchy thick legging material. For me every time I think of full leather pants I think of that episode of Friends where Ross decides to purchase a pair and then can’t get them back on during his date with a girl. That is literally my worst nightmare, but these have the best of both worlds. They have the comfort of a legging but then they have the edgy look of leather on top of it. These are a few years old, but there are other designers that have made similar pairs recently. If you are interested in getting a pair of leather leggings here are my suggestions. If you don’t want it to look like leggings, opt for a pair that at the waist they have belt loops to make it look like they are leather pants. Second, if you are going for a faux pair try them on in store or just find them in the store even if you know your size. Some faux leather leggings are great price wise and may look great pictured online from the different online retailers, however, when you get them in the store or in the mail if you are ordering online they don’t have the same shine to them as you thought. I personally bought a pair from Amazon recently and when I got them in the mail they looked almost identical to the shiny pair of leggings that I purchased in the past from American Apparel, but the pair from American Apparel were double the price! Thankfully the pair I purchased was returnable, but I have had so many friends that purchased pairs from the fast fashion website like Gilt and Ruelala and they were not returnable so now they are sadly stuck with them. Remember also, if it is a legging it will be more comfortable to wear in general because leather pants don’t have much give in them so if they are tight on you now then they will continue to be tight on you forever. Winter White Lace

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I don’t know about you but I am counting down the days until Thanksgiving. There has always been a stigma when it comes to wearing white during winter. I know you can’t wear white pants after Labor Day (even though I do because it is appropriate to in Miami), but does that go for everything? I say no. This white lace top from Joie is one of my favorite go to tops for the holiday season. I pair it with a white Wolford bodysuit underneath it and it looks amazing. I have seen other people wear it without a tank or anything underneath, but if you are like me and don’t want to show too much skin, especially with it being so cold out, this is the next best solution. I also like it because with a normal tank if you tuck it in you still see the shirt in your jeans and you want a tank that lays flat under the lace top. If you couldn’t already tell from today and yesterday’s post, I am a bit of a bodysuit fanatic. It just makes your outfit look more put together and it allows everything to just lay better. If you are looking for a lace top this holiday season I recently went to Bloomingdales and they have a large selection in all different price ranges. If you aren’t sure if you could pull off an all lace top and don’t like the idea of a bodysuit that is okay! There are tons of other top options that have lace detailing and are still super cute for this holiday season. For me, with these tops, I always go a size up because I like a lace top to lay loose on me vs skin tight, but that is completely up to you. It also depends on what kind of look you are trying to achieve. With this look, I was trying to achieve a relaxed look and something that is comfortable and simple. Black Denim

Happy Saturday! I am the girl that during winter I normally live in my leggings, but once it hits a certain temperature no matter how thick the leggings are they will not keep you warm. What’s a girl to do but find a great pair of black jeans! These are another pair that I got from Bloomingdales last month during their amazing jean sale. I always seem to find great pairs during this time because even if you buy one pair that is full price, sometimes if you buy one full price you will either get the second pair discounted or you get BMoney in return. These pair are from 7 For All Mankind and they are absolutely amazing. Some of the jeans that I have purchased over the years I have noticed that even after one wear of them they become so loose that I feel the need to wash them so they shrink a little. It is known that you aren’t suppose to wash your jeans very often because then the jeans will lose its color fast, but also then they wear too quickly over time. These pair are mid-rise ankle skinny and I have had them for over a month and have only washed them once! Also, surprisingly unlike other pairs of dark / black denim that have had the color run onto my clothing, this pair has not. They are so comfortable and soft that to someone that is just looking at you they look like jeans, but feel like a soft pair of leggings. They are not too thick that you feel like you are walking around with firm jeans, but they aren’t too thin that even on the coldest nights in New York City you are still kept warm. I tested it to see if I needed to, once it is snowing outside, if a pair of tights could fit under them comfortably and to my surprise they do! Happy Halloween! Sandy From Grease

Happy Halloween Everyone! Every year I go through the motions of should I buy a costume or should I just use clothes that I already have to make a costume? This year I chose to use items in my wardrobe that I already had to create my halloween costume as Sandy from Grease. I already owned this amazing off the shoulder body suit from Express which comes in so many colors and is so comfortable and easy to wear. My half leather leggings are from Paige Denim that I got a few years ago with my mom at Bloomingdales. During the winter this is a great piece for when I want to have something that is a little bit fancier than just plain jeans, but also as comfortable as a pair of leggings. If you don’t have open toe shoes like the ones I am wearing just a plain pair of black pumps or boots or heels will do the trick! When I went away to Kansas this weekend I didn’t bring these leggings so instead I wore a pair of black mid rise jeans and paired it with my Gucci belt and a pair of leather booties with a leather jacket thrown over it. It is super easy to just use things you already have in your closet to dress up. For example one of the popular halloween costumes that I saw this weekend on facebook was to be a member of Fifth Harmony in their work from home music video. All you need is a pair of denim shorts or even a pair of overalls and a plaid shirt with a brown belt. Honestly, who cares what shoes you are wearing with some of these outfits they normally get cut off in the picture anyways 🙂 Hope everyone has a great Halloween and even though I am too old to go out and get candy I will get a bag from CVS for myself in honor of the holiday <3
