Memorial Day Outfit Prep

Happy Thursday! Today I got my hair colored and went from red back to having my blonde ombre just in time for summer. With Memorial Day being next weekend I am getting all of my outfits ready for the big weekend. There are some essential items that you will need for the holiday weekend whether you are going away or staying in town. Here are some of the things you should make sure you have: a great pair of white jeans, a cold shoulder top with a great strapless bra, a small clutch and a great pair of sandals. If you don’t have any of these items I would go out and get them ASAP! I say this out of love because I know what it feels like not to have these clutch items. I went shopping in a panic out in New York City and yes New York one of the fashion capitals of the world has everything however when it comes to major holidays. You will notice that when summer comes along right before the actual weekend these items like white jeans sell out in mostly every single size. These are staple items that you will not only wear Memorial Day weekend, but all summer long. I know we are all waiting for these huge Memorial Day sale however, a lot of stores do offer pre sale for certain items if you ask. I have personally done this numerous times at Bloomingdales during their Friends & Family if I didn’t need the item right away. If you don’t know where to begin when it comes to shopping for next weekend I suggest you all head on over to Gap, H&M or Forever 21. These are great store options that have so many options right now and at great prices. For all of those in New York City I hope that all of you are safe after todays’ horrible accident in Times Square. Always be aware of your surroundings and make sure to pay attention always. Fitness Tuesday – Summer Body Ready

It’s Fitness Tuesday here on Just Jodi Style and I want to discuss something that everyone knows is coming…SUMMER! With Memorial Day coming up soon everyone is a panic to get their beach bodies ready. I have noticed this personally in all of my work out classes these past two weeks. Normally the 7 am spin class I attend is 75% full, but now there is always a waitlist to get into the class. I want to stress to everyone to not overdue it just to get beach body ready. In reality that body won’t stay long if you are just trying to get an easy fix. For example I have seen a ton of people doing juice cleanses to drop a few lbs fast, but the moment you start back on solid food the weight just comes right back on. Trust me I have done 2 juice cleanses in my lifetime. Yes, I lost a great deal of weight while doing them, but the moment I started back eating normally food all the weight just came right back on. The best way to keep your body great all summer long is to be consistent. Yes this will requiring working out, but you will also need to watch what you are eating and drinking. Something that I learned helps with your metabolism is to start your mourning off with a hot cup of water with a little bit of lemon. This will help jump start your metabolism and also I have noticed that it has helped me when I feel like I may be getting sick. Another thing that helps is portion control. I know that everyone posts about their meal prep for the week, but that gets boring after a while. You want variety and there is no shame in admitting that. I personally look at my schedule for the week every Sunday night to determine my meals for the week before hitting the grocery store Monday morning. I do this because Monday SoulCycle classes open up for the next week and that way I can also plan my meals around my workouts as well. It’s a win win situation you plan your week of fitness ahead of time and what you will eat. Now I don’t plan specifically what day I will be eating certain meals, but I plan out how many meals I will eat at home and enough options for all of those days. Birthstone Necklaces – Opal

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day yesterday and spoiled your Mom’s rotten. I personally got my Mom a beautiful Michael Aram picture frame with a photo of both myself and Stella inside. Needless to say she loved it and it is already up in my house in Miami. Growing up I never understood what my birthstone was. I thought it was just a white stone with a bunch of colors mixed into it, but over the years I have learned that there are different colors of my birthstone. I was born on October 21st, 1989 and my birthstone is the Opal. I never liked my birthstone as a child because everyone would get me the same similar pieces with the white opal with a bunch of blue or purple sparks in them. I have never in my line purchased something with my birthstone in it until now. Adina Reyter has become one of my favorite jewelry designers for many reasons this being one of them. Her pieces are so delicate and simple, but also everyone notices you when you wear them. While working one of the trade shows last fall I passed by her booth and was fortunate enough to meet her in person. I asked her what her favorite pieces were of her entire collection both new and old and she pointed to me this opal necklace. I then proceeded to tell her that it was my birthstone and how I don’t wear any jewelry with my birthstone ever. She then let me try on the necklace and I fell in love. It sat so perfectly on my collar bone and was so small and simple that it was just the right amount of sparkle. I purchased it right then and there and since then I pretty much wear it every single day. Shocking that I went from never wearing my birthstone to now wearing it on a daily basis. Mother’s Day Week – Steals & Deals

Happy Friday! The work week is finally over and Mother’s day is just two days away. One of my favorite new purchases this summer was from Donni Charm. Their Donni Gigi’s have become a staple in my wardrobe both during summer and the fall. Stella loves rocking their doggy bandanas too! Right now on their website in their Mom shop if your purchase one of Donni Gigi you get one for you FREE! Now this deal is only through Mother’s Day and you better head on over there FAST!!! They even have a set where one of the Gigi’s is monogrammed saying “Like Mother” and the other says “Like Daughter”. Now if that’s not the cutest gift to where with your Mom I don’t know what is.If you don’t think your Mom would wear these amazing neck scarves you would be wrong. My Mom every time she wears one of her many Donni Charm items out and about in Miami she gets tons of compliments from everyone around her. Mother’s Day Week – Bucket Bag

Happy Thursday! I think all fashionistas can agree that one of the major brands to come out in the past few years is Manusr Gavriel. When they first came out their bags would sell out immediately and it sometimes took over 2 months for them to come back in stock. Bucket bags have been in style for years and Mansur Gavriel has brought them back from the dead. My Mom has a custom green bucket bag that she had made over 30 years ago on her honeymoon and it still looks brand new! If your Mom this holiday has been lusting over a new bag this is a  great one for her. My Uncle’s got me the mini bucket bag for my birthday this year and I am obsessed with it. The regular bucket bag is significantly bigger and comes with a small pouch as well, but I personally didn’t want a huge bag to carry around on a daily basis. I did try on the mini mini bucket bag and yes my Iphone 6s Plus fit inside the bag, but not much else did. I personally would get my Mom the bucket bag, but in black with silver interior or the navy. This bag is so elegant and yes because of the kind of leather it does get scratched up easily, but honestly all bags get marks on them eventually over time. Just as long as you take care of your bag and put it away properly you won’t have any problems. I am stickler for putting my bags back in their purse bags they come in and I would especially do it for this bag as well so it doesn’t get any additional scratches in your closet. One Year Of Just Jodi Style

Happy Tuesday! Normally today I would focus on fitness Tuesday, but today is a very special day to me. A year ago today I officially launched Just Jodi Style into the world and my what a year it has been. I personally just want to thank my family and friends for all of your love and support through this past year. I don’t know what I would have done without all of you by my side. I hope all of you have enjoyed what I have posted this past year and will continue on this amazing journey with me. Today I am spending the day cuddling up with my sweet puppy Stella in our pajamas trying to stay warm from this lovely snow storm we are having here in New York City. Yes I know the snowstorm is also named Stella just like my puppy. I didn’t know the name of the storm until my brother informed me yesterday afternoon and I didn’t believe him until he sent me a weather report link showing me. Hope everyone has a great day and for the rest of us in New York stay warm and only go outside if it is an absolute emergency. <3

Comfy Casual Night In

In college Thursday nights were always a big going out night, but since I have gotten older I enjoy at least one night in on the weekends. Especially nights in cuddling with my sweet puppy Stella. However, just because you are staying in doesn’t mean you don’t have to be wearing sweats around the house. There is always a way to look cute even when you are just staying home. There are so many different ways you can take comfy casual and there is no right or wrong way. Most people would say if you are just spending the night in on your couch watching movies that jeans are not ideal for this, but I disagree. There are so many different pairs of jeans that almost feel like leggings and aren’t rigid like most jeans. These type of jeans are perfect for a night in because they aren’t as constricting as a normal pair of jeans. On top of a pair of jeans pair it with a comfy shirt not super tight, but not too loose that you look like you are just wearing an oversized sleep t-shirt. I know you all know what I am talking about those t-shirts from college that were great to wear to sporting games, but now are faded and way too big. If you have one of those that isn’t too big you can cut it up like the shirt I am wearing above. It will spice up your t-shirt and if you cut it wrong you can just continue to wear it as a sleep shirt. Pair your comfy look with a great pair of slides if you are going over to a friends house or just want to break in a new pair of shoes and you are good to go! Stella seems to be very comfy for our night in with her custom Donni Charm plaid bandana. Maybe if I am lucky she will let me take it off before she goes to bed. 🙂 <3

Steals & Deals: The Over The Knee Heeled Boot

Happy Friday! For today’s Steals & Deals I want to discuss one of the hottest trends this season…the over the knee boot. We have seen everyone wear them from the Hadid sisters to almost every fashion blogger out there. I was lucky enough to get a pair of the Stuart Weitzman Highland boots in black suede for my birthday, but not everyone wants to spend that much on a pair of shoes. I have learned that even if you waterproof your shoes the one thing that will destroy them is the salt that everyone puts on the sidewalks to melt the snow. So if you get that on your new boots that are weather proofed just take a towel or napkin and wipe off the salt. Splurge Worthy Wedding Clutch

Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is gearing up for the Superbowl this Sunday and has done all of the food shopping that they need. February seems to be one of the most popular months to get married. Obviously because of Valentine’s Day, but also because of President’s Day Weekend. In a few weeks I am going to be going to Arizona to watch one of my best friends from college marry the love her life and I am so excited that I will be there. I haven’t been back to Arizona since I graduated college in December 2012 so needless to say I have my list of places I want to hit before I leave. The other day I started to go through my closet to plan out my outfits for the wedding weekend. One of the first purchases I made for myself years ago was this amazing black patent bag from Louis Vuitton. It has card holders in the front of the bag as well as a zipper inside, but it also comes with detachable strap! When it comes to a wedding bag I know I have said this before, but it is 100% worth the splurge. I have worn this bag out with the strap to dinners in New York City and then as a clutch to engagement parties and weddings. It is so versatile and even though there is gold hardware on it in some lightings you can’t even tell so  you can also get away with silver jewelry as well. If you are looking for a classic wedding clutch and aren’t sure what to purchase this is perfect for you. Anything black patent is great because it is a classic look that will never go out of style. The Quilted Handbag

Happy Thursday! Back in college the one thing that every girl wanted a Chanel quilted bag, but my mom wasn’t going to send me to college with such an expensive bag that I would potentially ruin on a night out. Instead she found something that had the same look, but more than half the cost. This Rebecca Minkoff quilted affair bag is one of my go to bags on days when it is so gross outside especially in New York City now with all of this rain that we have been having. This specific version is no longer sold in stores anymore, however they do have a smaller version on the Bloomingdales website. I have personally worn my bag during some major snow storms and some pretty terrible rain and it has held up through it all. If you are looking for a great going out bag that has the look of a classic Chanel bag Rebecca Minkoff is the place to go. All of their bags are so classic and are amazing quality. I have truly seen a great change in her designs and work in the past 5 years and I am an avid customer. When I couldn’t find this bag back in college my mom was able to find it thanks to Zappos. If you are having trouble finding any bag that seems to be sold out everywhere online check Zappos website. More than likely they have the bag or at least that is what has happened to me in the past. I paired my bag with a simple pair of black jeans and a chambray top with black loafers for an easy casual going out look.
