Happy Fitness Tuesday everyone! I am running around crazy right now because I am heading back to Florida today with my sweet puppy Stella and I’m super excited to get to some warm weather ASAP! So as many of you are already preparing yourselves for eating way too much food on Thursday there are some workouts that can help you prepare for the feast I am sure all of you are about to have. One of the things that I do on every flight I have is stretch. Whether it be twisting my back or if you are sitting in the bulkhead sit I always stretch my legs out. I am also one of those people that stretches my quads while I am waiting for the restroom. The worst thing you can do especially on a plane is just not move at all. Prior to your meal this week I suggest that if you are somewhere that is warm take a nice walk. I am most definitely taking Stella on a nice walk around my neighborhood because first off it’s warm outside and if you can get a nice tan while you are walking why not and also its an easy way to burn some calories before you consume them all at your Thanksgiving meal. Also a lot of cities have Turkey Trots which is usually a 5k the day of Turkey day. Now if you are like me and don’t want to leave your mom or dad home cooking by themselves then the walk around the block is a great way to get some work out in before your meal. I hope everyone who is traveling today travels safe and stays warm if you are staying in the cold. Hopefully I come back from Miami with a nice tan 🙂 <3
Fitness Tuesday – Meditation
Happy Tuesday Everyone! Thanksgiving is a little over a week away and I am already mentally preparing myself for how much food I will be eating over the holiday. I am also prepping for the stress of travelling. Personally, I am an anxious flyer and I used to be able to sleep on planes all the time when I was younger, but now I can maybe sleep max 5 minutes on the flight. Something that everyone has told me to do and has recently popped up in pop culture is medication. Even recently on Keeping up with the Kardashians, Kendall Jenner did this to help with her airplane anxiety. I know what you are all thinking right now. You picture someone sitting cross legged with their palms facing up on their knees, eyes closed, saying “ohmmmmmmm,” but that isn’t what you have to do. Every person, I have noticed, meditates differently. Oddly enough, in my high school we had yoga as an option for physical education. Both of the yoga teachers also were teachers in our school and one of them was my physics teacher senior year. He started every class with a 5 minute meditation in order for us to clear our minds. We would sit our chairs back straight and hands by our sides like they were dangling and simply focused on our breathing. That not only helped me everyday relax before the start of class, but it also especially helped me before any exam. Recently, I have been trying to figure out new ways to help me calm down and deal with everything that I have going on in my life. Sometimes I take my yoga mat to my roof and I lay it out and rest my back against the wall and just close my eyes and focus on my breathing. One thing that I highly recommend if you are meditating, is to not bring your phone or anything-turn off all electronic devices. Disconnecting from all devices and all social media for a little while is very helpful in this process. You can cross your legs, sit up tall with your legs out or even lay down- whatever works for you. Some people think if you lay down it looks like you are sleeping, but I don’t believe that. I believe that if you take even 5 minutes everyday whether it be when you wake up or at night just to clear your mind of everything it helps you re-energize and get ready for the next day. I hope you all enjoyed today’s fitness tuesday post. Namaste! <3

Happy Election Day! Fitness Tuesday: Running
Happy Election Day! It’s Fitness Tuesday and to honor the New York City Marathon that just took place this past Sunday, today’s fitness inspiration is running. I know that most people don’t enjoy running. My brother Ira says that he gets bored while running even with listening to music or having a tv on if he is on the treadmill. I personally used to feel that way too, but now I enjoy it from time to time. In the spring of 2013, I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon which is something that honestly shocked my entire family. When it comes to running, the first thing that you need to do is get a great pair of shoes. Yes, I was one of those people that went into a running store and ran on a treadmill in front of a bunch of people to find the right shoe. Also don’t expect to find exactly the color you want in a running shoe. Mine are pink and teal and personally I would have preferred something not as out there, but at the end of the day they are so comfortable and that is really what matters when running. If you have the opportunity to run outside do it! I say this not because it is more entertaining and possibly scenic running outside, but for me I have noticed it is not as hard on my knees. When starting to run take it slow.and don’t worry about trying to have a fast pace. Also when running with your music put your phone airplane mode if you aren’t expecting any calls in order to save battery. I did that when I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon and I am so thankful I did. Make sure you also stretch before and after running and it’s always a good idea to take an epsom salt bath after a nice long run. Hope to see everyone out there running the streets before it eventually starts to snow.Happy running everyone and I go out and vote! <3

Fitness Tuesday- 30 Day Squat Challenge
Happy November everyone! Wow crazy that today is the first day of November. This year has truly flown by and can’t believe that we are so close to the holiday season. Most people know November as no shave Movember, but since the 1st of the month fell on Fitness Tuesday here at Just Jodi Style I wanted to give you all a challenge for this month. This month I am going to be doing a 30 day squat challenge. Different than the ab challenge for last month I wanted something that was similar in the sense that it’s not as time consuming, but target a different area of your body. I have done the challenges in the past where you do wall sits or lunges, but I have never done one with simply just squats. You think that it wouldn’t do anything to your body, but look at Jen Selter. She is now known for building her backside into what it is today and she did a lot of that with simply doing squats. I mean I don’t necessarily want the same results as her, but she has truly made her brand with it. With Thanksgiving coming up just around the corner I know that it’s going to be full of food and treats so I want to be mentally and physically prepared for it :-). For all of you who did the ab challenge last month I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I personally can tell that my abs are stronger than before and I do feel more toned. I don’t have the flattest abs in the world, but I am surely getting closer to it. If you didn’t do the ab challenge last month you can always try again this month. Hope you all have a great Tuesday and happy November to you all! <3
Fitness Tuesday: Kickboxing
It’s Fitness Tuesday everyone! Recently, one of the biggest workout kicks that everyone has been on since spinning, is kickboxing. We have all seen our favorites like Gigi Hadid and pretty much every Victoria Secret model swear by it, so I personally had to see what all the hype was about. I have now being going once a week to kickboxing classes and I am hooked! Every studio is different and I have tried a few different ones, but it all depends what type of workout you want. I went to one by my apartment where the class started with a warm up exercises of running around the room with different interval exercises such as burpees, squats, air squats, lunges and of course all the different ab workouts you can think of. By the end of the “warm up” at this kickboxing studio I was always drenched in sweat, but ready to hit the bags. Other studios you did a simple a warm up then you either are doing some sparring with a partner or against a bag. Still to this day my favorite was Prevail which is based out of LA and has been featured on some tv shows including Vanderpump Rules. The one thing I will say to everyone is make sure you protect your wrists. I wear a bracelet on my right wrist everyday and I have noticed it start to bother me during kickboxing. If you go enough to classes it is worth investing in some of your own wraps for your hands. I bought two different ones off Amazon and I wash them myself. This is something my brother does and he said it just makes you feel better knowing you cleaned them and they are yours. I have my own gloves that I got for signing up with one of the studios and they work great for me. Some people have said because their hands are small like mine they bought their own pair of gloves and that is totally up to you! Just make sure that you protect yourself, because it is very easy to hurt yourself in kickboxing. I have definitely seen a change in my arm definition since starting kickboxing and I hope that one day I will have arms like Gigi Hadid 🙂 . Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Fitness Tuesday: The Right Leggings For You
Its Fitness Tuesday here on Just Jodi Style and I wanted to share with you all my new go to work out legging. In the past I have always loved leggings for working out, but as we all know leggings don’t always stay put where they should be. Also while working out a lot of the times I feel like they lose their shape to the point where I am constantly pulling up my leggings in the middle of my work out classes. Well say no more to this problem because I have found the answer. The answer is high waisted leggings! These amazing leggings from Lululemon are not only high waisted, but they keep their shape through every wear. One of the many complaints I have seen in the past from other shoppers at Lululemon is that the leggings tend to billow by the middle part and also tend to get white little balls of fuzz all over them after so many washes. These leggings are the full – on luxtreme and I can guarantee you that the problems that you may have faced before with previous leggings from Lululemon are a thing of the past. I have had these pairs of leggings for over 6 months now and they still look like brand new every time I wear them. If you are not into the high waisted legging, but want to make sure that your leggings stay in perfect condition then the way to go is full – on luxtreme. Next time you go to a Lululemon store ask a sales associate for any legging style in full – on luxtreme. I promise you that you will not regret it. It has truly changed my workouts in the sense that I am not constantly fussing with my leggings while I am at the gym and I know that after every wash they will look exactly the same as the day I bought them. Check out their website now for all of their amazing options. Happy Shopping <3
Fitness Tuesday: Yoga
In high school, I was required to take 2 credits worth of physical education and unlike other schools, if you played a sport that counted towards your credit, and on top of that we had options for PE that were at the time trend setting. One of the classes that was offered at my high school was yoga. Yes, yoga! Ever since then I have enjoyed taken the occasional Yoga class when I really need time to relax and stretch out my muscles. I have scoliosis and wore a back brace for 5 years and my doctor said that yoga was a great form of exercise to help with back problems. If you have never done yoga before make sure you tell the studio where you are going that it is your first time. This is very important because there are different levels of yoga. Also you do not want to go to a studio that only offers hot yoga. Hot yoga is very intense and that is not something you want to do for your first class. I learned this from friends experiences. Even though I did gymnastics the majority of my life and I am pretty flexible, the first time I did yoga I still had a difficult time doing some of the poses. Do not be embarrassed or anything because I still do to this day have difficulty doing some of the poses that they have shown me in class. Most studios provide their own mats for yoga, but ask when you call the studio before going. If you are looking to purchase a yoga mat I got a great one for myself at Target and I even use it in my apartment when I am just doing some ab work outs on my floor so that I have a softer surface to lay on. Here are some great ones on Target’s website. If you don’t have to bring your own mat I suggest you bring a hand towel. Unlike a lot of the exercise studios some don’t provide towels for you and if you are like me you do sweat in these classes so it’s nice to have your own clean towel. Hope you all now go and try your first yoga class because it is amazing and super relaxing.
Fitness Tuesday – Fitness at your desk
Now, I know I am fortunate enough that I can sit on my couch and be able to write my blog posts, but I know what it feels like to have to sit at a desk all day feeling like you aren’t getting your workout in for the day. I have seen all the different ideas from the standing desk with the treadmills attached, to sitting on the big bouncy balls, but sometimes you don’t have the space for those things. This got my brother and I thinking about our mom. We wanted to get something one year for her to use in her office, that was small enough that it wouldn’t take up so much room for her. This under desk foot pedal from amazon is a great alternative to all of these big bulky items. It allows you to still have a little work out while you are sitting at your desk. Since my brother and I got this for my mom, I have seen and heard of so many other people that have gotten this for themselves to have at work. Especially with winter approaching, we may not have the energy to trek to the gym with it being so cold out, but this gives you no excuse. This is a great alternative to not working out at all and keeping your blood flow moving. It may not be the same as attending a 45 minute workout class, but it will keep you energized throughout your entire day at work. Check out Amazon for some great options for under the desk pedals. There are a few that are pretty pricey, but just look at the reviews and see what others are saying about them before buying. I hope you all are loving the fitness tuesday posts and that they have inspired you to hit the gym!

Fitness Tuesday: The Right Support
When working out the most important thing for any female is finding the right sports bra.Growing up I had a larger chest than most of my friends so even though I wanted to wear the “cool” sports bras that they were wearing I knew that it wasn’t going to be possible for me. As I got older I tried out probably every brand of sports bras that came out in hopes that it would fit me properly. One thing that is important when buying a sports bra is you want it to support you. you also don’t want to be moving around too much especially with different work outs because you will just feel the pain later. When lululemon came out I was skeptical of trying a lot of their sports bras because they seemed to be meant for women with smaller chests. However, recently they have come out with more styles and more variety in the sports bra department that I have found my perfect fit. With their sports bras, I personally take out the additional cup they add into it because they always seem to fall out when I wash them, but also they just annoy me when I am working out. If you can’t go to a lululemon store go online and buy a bunch of sizes. They have a great return policy and great customer service. Once you have figured out your size always look out for their “we made too much” section. A lot of times I have found my favorite sports bra there but in a different color pattern on sale in their “We Made Too Much” section and even though the pattern may not be my favorite who can say no to a discounted sports bra from lululemon? Head on over to lululemon’s website to see some of their amazing sports bras now!
Fitness Tuesday: Fhitting Room
I know that on Sunday I wrote about SoulCycle and my love for doing spin classes, but I have decided that every Tuesday I am going to share some fitness tips and will be calling it Fitness Tuesday! Something that my brother Ira has taught me about working out (he is my gym inspiration) he said that you need to make sure that you switch up your workouts. I spin at least 4 days a week, but in between spinning and doing cardio I try to add different work outs. My best friend Shayna told me about Fhitting Room back in July and I will admit I was a little scared to try it at first. Before I went to the class I obviously googled it and saw a video of one of the classes. I have done cross training type classes before, but not ones that involved this many circuits in one class. I reluctantly signed up for my first class and now I am hooked. I know a lot of people are concerned that especially in a group class like that you won’t get a lot of personalized attention especially since you want to make sure your form is right in order to not hurt yourself, but there is no reason for anyone to be worried! There are always two instructors in each class and they are constantly walking around checking everyone’s form. There have been times I have been screamed at in my face saying to keep going when I was at my breaking point, but they pushed me through it. I have been in the class with even women that are PREGNANT believe it or not and if they can make it through this class so can all of you. They give a deal to first timers where you get two classes for the price of one and then after those classes run out you can buy a 3 class pack at a lower rate. If you are in NYC and haven’t tried them out already you need to get yourself over to either one of their locations and try it out for yourself.
