It’s Fitness Tuesday here on Just Jodi Style and I want to discuss something that everyone knows is coming…SUMMER! With Memorial Day coming up soon everyone is a panic to get their beach bodies ready. I have noticed this personally in all of my work out classes these past two weeks. Normally the 7 am spin class I attend is 75% full, but now there is always a waitlist to get into the class. I want to stress to everyone to not overdue it just to get beach body ready. In reality that body won’t stay long if you are just trying to get an easy fix. For example I have seen a ton of people doing juice cleanses to drop a few lbs fast, but the moment you start back on solid food the weight just comes right back on. Trust me I have done 2 juice cleanses in my lifetime. Yes, I lost a great deal of weight while doing them, but the moment I started back eating normally food all the weight just came right back on. The best way to keep your body great all summer long is to be consistent. Yes this will requiring working out, but you will also need to watch what you are eating and drinking. Something that I learned helps with your metabolism is to start your mourning off with a hot cup of water with a little bit of lemon. This will help jump start your metabolism and also I have noticed that it has helped me when I feel like I may be getting sick. Another thing that helps is portion control. I know that everyone posts about their meal prep for the week, but that gets boring after a while. You want variety and there is no shame in admitting that. I personally look at my schedule for the week every Sunday night to determine my meals for the week before hitting the grocery store Monday morning. I do this because Monday SoulCycle classes open up for the next week and that way I can also plan my meals around my workouts as well. It’s a win win situation you plan your week of fitness ahead of time and what you will eat. Now I don’t plan specifically what day I will be eating certain meals, but I plan out how many meals I will eat at home and enough options for all of those days. I hope this helps all of you with planning your summer bodies. Have a great day <3
Fitness Tuesday – To Stretch Or Not To Stretch?
Happy New Year everyone and happy first fitness Tuesday of 2017!! I am finally recovering from this weekend and getting back into the swing of things. I started January 1st with a 90 minute SoulCycle class and when you hear people say it is hard that is an understatement even for me who does spinning at least 4 times a week. When I used to do spinning I would always leave before the stretch part because I would just want to get out of the class and shower. Even when I was younger I would always just do the bare minimum of stretching not until I played JV basketball in High School did I start to take it more seriously. I didn’t want to injure myself because I wasn’t stretching properly, but with spinning didn’t think that I needed to stretch more than I normally did. One thing that I have learned since starting to work out more is that stretching is more important than you think. Even if you don’t really stretch fully before any type of workout after you should always stretch every muscle you have. There are times I would think oh I don’t need to stretch out my arms because I barely did any arm work, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t use your arms in a way you didn’t realize. As I have previously stated a foam roller is great for stretching, but you can use anything in your house. I personally use a towel to stretch out my legs by using wrapping it around my feet and holding either end of the towel and then pointing and flexing my toes in the process. It may sound silly, but think about all the stretches you did in your middle school PE classes and do those today. They are more helpful than you think and they will prevent you from getting stiff muscles and possibly hurting yourself in the long run. Hope everyone had a great weekend and for those of you in New York City are staying dry on the cold rainy day. <3
Steals & Deals: Athletic Shoes
Since I have started working out so much more I have really experimented with all of my work out shoes and trying different ones for each of my work outs. These amazing Nike sneakers are part of their flyknit collection and are honestly so comfortable I almost forget that they are on my feet! Something that I have learned is it doesn’t matter how much you spend on your athletic shoes you need to make sure that they work best for you. They are your feet after all and you need to make sure you take great care of them. You should never wear the same shoes everyday to work out and you should switch it up. This is so you don’t wear down one pair of shoes, but also it just good for your feet. My suggestion is to buy a pair of training shoes that work for everything. These nikes are good for running, training, and for just walking around in general. I have specific shoes just for running that I purchased when I ran the Brooklyn half marathon back in 2014, but those I only wear when I am running long distances. If you are looking for specific running shoes go to the store and have them fit you for the right pair. I did that and although I looked very silly running on a treadmill in jeans and a sweater t the shoes I purchased were great for my work out. I hope this was helpful for all of you who are looking to get into working out! Can’t wait to add to my work out shoe collection and maybe one day have a closet like Khloe Kardashian devoted to my work out gear. If you haven’t seen what her workout closet looks like head on over to SELF Magazine’s website and see for yourself. #goals Khloe Kardashian Closet <3
Steals & Deals: Daym Jodi Back at it with the White Shoe
Daym Jodi! Back at again with the white shoes! Today’s steals and deals post, if you haven’t already guessed, is about the infamous white sneaker. After those two kids from California started those snapchats with the white vans I can’t stop seeing people wearing white sneakers everywhere! I know that everyone loves the Stan Smith Adidas sneakers, but when I was looking for the perfect white sneaker I wanted something that I hadn’t seen all my friends wear. These white sneakers I am wearing are from Kenneth Cole. Yes I know exactly what you are all thinking: who would have thought that Kenneth Cole made cool sneakers? I didn’t! I saw these and instantly fell in love because I didn’t want to have a bright color on my shoes, but I still wanted a little detail on them that made them different. These silver detailing on the back of the shoe was the perfect amount for me. They are also aren’t that much more money than the Adidas pair. They are only $120 and are genuine leather. If you look on their website the back detailing looks gold from the images, but in person they are more silver than gold. I wear mine almost everyday when it is nice out and I never want to take them off. If you are discouraged to buy the famous white sneaker because of the fact that they do get dirty quicker than other shoes, don’t be. When I want to clean my shoes I use the famous Mr. Clean “magic eraser.” It gets off all the dirt and scuffs from my shoes in an instant and keeps them looking pearly white ☺ . If you are looking for other alternative options check out some other great pairs I have below from Nordstrom. Again, I can’t say this enough, make sure that you are comfortable with whatever shoe you purchase because the last thing you want is to be wearing sneakers that ultimately hurt your feet. Good luck with the search!!
Steals & Deals: Atheltic Shoes
Spring has sprung and so has everyone’s urge to go to the gym and get ready for the summer. Every season I always seem to buy a new pair of gym shoes, but I always try to find a pair that is under $100 because I know in a year from now I will want a new pair. When looking for great pair of sneakers and at a fraction of the cost, the first places I go to are Nordstrom and Zappos. I love Nordstrom not only for their customer service, but also because they always have a great assortment when it comes to athletic shoes. Now Zappos, I love for many reasons, but the main one is the shipping. They always get you your merchandise within a day or two of ordering it even when you select ground shipping. I have only had one issue with them in the past where I received a pair of shoes in the wrong size. When I said I would send them back they told me to keep the shoes and they would send me the correct pair, which I received the next day. If you live in a city where you have a Nordstrom rack, go in right now and stock up on athletic sneakers. I have noticed that around this time every year they always stock up on the latest Nike and New Balance running shoes and they are normally under $60! I will be the first to admit that I want my athletic shoes to look great and be fashionable, but remember it’s also important for them to be comfortable. I have gone through so many different styles of athletic shoes because even though they may have looked cute on me they weren’t the comfiest shoes to work out in. Check out the links below to see some of my favorite athletic shoes that I am lusting over this season and shop them on my favorite sites ☺. Happy shopping!
